Senator John McCain Applauds Executive Order Rolling-Back EPA's "Waters of the United States" Rule

Statement

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today applauding President Trump's executive order that begins the process of rolling-back the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) "Waters of the United States" (WOTUS) rule:

"Today's executive order rolling-back the "Waters of the United States' (WOTUS) rule is an important victory for Arizona's agriculture and homebuilding industries, which account for a significant portion of economic activity in our state. This onerous, 299-page regulation would have put the EPA in charge of more than 60 percent of all surface water in the United States. This would have given the federal government authority to prevent farmers from building or repairing canals, communities from constructing schools or churches near dry washes, or even private property owners from developing on their own land. Even worse, the EPA would have been given the power to fine farmers or construction yards tens of thousands of dollars for maintaining a ditch near desert dry washes, which are common in Arizona. President Trump made the right decision to roll-back this dangerous expansion of federal regulatory control over businesses vital to Arizona's economy."
